Mother says Jamie Paulin-Ramirez had been in contact with fellow American Jihad 'Jane'

A U.S. woman second that he converted to Islam has been arrested in connection with an alleged attempt to kill a Swedish artist, days after it was revealed terrorism charges against a woman dubbed "Jihad Jane".

Jamie Paulin-Ramirez, 31, from Colorado, was one of seven people arrested in Ireland last week about the alleged plot to kill Lars Vilks, who represents the Prophet Mohammed as a dog in one sketch.

His mother, Christine Mott, Paulin-Ramirez said he was alone and had "swallowed" extremism. Paulin-Ramirez announced last year that he had converted to Islam and moved to Ireland with her six-year-old son.

Irish police refused to discuss the case. Three of those arrested are still in custody.

Paulin-arrest of Ramirez is one of four events last week with Americans and alleged terrorist activities abroad. Al Qaeda spokesman Adam Gadahn appeared in a video, Sharif Mobley, New Jersey, tried to escape arrest in Yemen, and Colleen LaRose, who allegedly went by the name of Jihad Jane online to recruit others to kill Vilks, was named in a federal prosecution of terror.

Mott Paulin-Ramirez said he had told his family he would go to hell if you do not follow in his footsteps and started wearing the veil, and later the hijab.

"He came out of nowhere," he said. "I knew I was talking to these people online ... What made him turn his back on his country, his family and become this person?" I do not know how or why. All I know is that she was in contact with the Jihad Jane. "

Mott said she and her daughter were "enemies ... We could not even talk to each other." When Paulin-Ramirez had discussed jihad with his stepfather, George Mott, who has been a Muslim for over 40 years, she said "strap a bomb was the cause," said Mrs. Mott.

Last week an indictment was unsealed LaRose accused of conspiring to murder an unidentified man in Sweden in order to scare "the whole Kufar [unbeliever] the world." According to FBI agents monitoring at least July last year, was potentially dangerous to the potential for terrorism on martyrdom and the use of aliases and Fatima Jihad Jane Larose.

There is growing concern in the U.S. about the impact of U.S. citizens involved in jihadist activities. This is a phenomenon of homegrown terrorism that has previously been considered rare in the country.

In December last year, FBI agents and Pakistani colleagues questioned five young Muslim Americans who were suspected of being on their way to Afghanistan to fight with the Taliban against U.S. forces. In early December another U.S. citizen, David Headley, was accused of helping plan the bombings in Mumbai that killed 166 people in 2008.
